May 11 to May 22 Pre-Departure Lecture/Orientation at Langara College

May 25 Departure (Arrive Narita, Tokyo on May 26)

May 26 to June 1 Tokyo: Visit old downtown (Asakusa, Ueno), Tsukiji Fish Market, Edo-Tokyo Museum, See kabuki performance, Major temples and shrines, Day trip to Kamakura, Observe contemporary youth culture at Harajuku, Shibuya, and Akihabara, Various cultural activities and free time on weekends

June 2 to June 18 Kyoto: Visit Toho Edo Movie Village, Manga Museum, Major temples and shrines (Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, Heian Jingu, Fushimi-Inari, Ryoan-ji etc), Participate tea ceremony workshop, See traditional performing arts at Gion, Participate Zen workshop, Visit Sake brewery, Socialize with Japanese students at Ryukoku University, Various cultural activities and free time on weekends

This field studies is equivalent to 6 university transferable courses. ASIA1135: Introduction to East Asia (Japan) AND JAPN1115: Beginner's Japanese I (OR JPAN1215: Beginner's Japanese II)

This is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel and study in Japan! Led by two native Japanese instructors, Nariko Takayanagi and Akemi Takei, you will visit major Japanese cities (Tokyo, Kamakura, Kyoto) and study the language and experience traditional and contemporary Japanese history and culture.
