Thank you to everyone who participated in our scholarship!
We are pleased to announce the winners of the Fall 2023 Stories from Abroad: British Columbia Study Abroad Scholarship.
Congratulations to:
Joe Porter, Douglas College
Joe is a 19-year-old British-Canadian studying at the University of Foreign Studies in Kyoto, Japan. From a young age, Joe has performed in drama and music, and upon returning to Canada, he hopes to pursue a career in music and education. In his spare time, Joe loves learning and engaging with his passions, such as filmmaking, space, and technology. Traveling abroad has given Joe an invaluable opportunity to engage with other cultures and has sparked a passion for travel, sharing stories, and sharing music. Joe continues to learn about the intricacies of language and the wonders of human connection and expression while abroad. He hopes to inspire many others to connect and explore in ways that have already had such an impact on his life.
Kate Slade, University of the Fraser Valley
Kate Slade is in her third year at the University of the Fraser Valley, majoring in Kinesiology. She's really into sports, especially the new ones she's trying out like surfing and long-distance running. Kate loves picking up new skills in sports and just about everything else. Her passion for learning has taken her on trips across the globe, and now she's headed to Australia. She's going there not only to study for a semester but also to get better at surfing. Kate's got a goal to get her wilderness safety certification so she can lead kayak tours around the world during her summer breaks from college.
Our winners will each receive $1,000, and they will be sharing their experiences from abroad.
