Born and raised in Vancouver, Julie began her journey at Simon Fraser University as a recipient of the Gordon M. Shrum Shad Valley Scholarship. Unsure of her path, Julie found inspiration in her surroundings – Vancouver, a truly international city. Majoring in international studies and minoring in history, she continues to cultivate her passions for Vancouver and its beautiful and complex cultural mosaic, hoping to pursue graduate studies on immigration, community development, and nationalism. Matthew Rosenthal, Royal Roads University, winner of the BC Study Abroad: Stories from Abroad Scholarship

Matthew Rosenthal is in the process of completing his communication degree at Royal Roads University. He went back to school as a mature student at the age of 28 to finish the degree he started when he was 20. Currently, Rosenthal is in Lund, Sweden, studying at Lund University on an exchange semester abroad.

Rosenthal has worked the last eight years in the broadcasting industry spending time with TSN Radio as well as CTV. He enjoys travelling, playing guitar and watching his beloved Canucks. He lives in Victoria and hopes to one day move to Scandinavia. He believes that getting out of your comfort zone is the best way to grow as a person.

Megan is a 3rd-year Natural Resource Science student at Thompson Rivers University. Her strong desire to experience Japanese culture, history and cuisine, has led her down the path to studying abroad. Incorporating her love for food and Canada’s natural resources has steered her in the direction of working towards a career in agriculture. Alongside eating incredible foods, photography is a passion of hers that she plans to incorporate into her semester abroad, future studies and career. Sharing incredible moments with friends, family and the rest of the world through photography and videography keeps her connected and always looking for uncharted places to explore.

Michelle Davies is a 4th year Bachelor of Tourism Management student at Thompson Rivers University. Born and raised in the interior of British Columbia, she has always had a sense of adventure exploring the forests, mountains, and lakes around her home.
