Even though I’m more than halfway through my exchange semester in Tokyo, there are still moments when I can’t believe I’ve made it here. When I first found out I was able to go on exchange, after trying for two years throughout the pandemic, I was extremely grateful. I promised myself that I would take full advantage of this opportunity. The half-year exchange study ended. I often thought of that precious experience after returning to Canada. I always felt lucky to study abroad before my graduation. During the half year, I received the famous higher education of the UK. I also learned the unique culture and history of the UK. Leigh Tipper is a mature student who returned to school at VIU last fall. After having her two children and being a single stay-at-home mother to them, while also homeschooling, she decided that the best way to build a better future for them would be to go back to school. In four years Leigh went from struggling to find a home with them to now being in school full time and about to leave for Norway with the education abroad program.
